WHY BUY LOCAL

What Does Buying Local Mean?

Just because “Big Box Chain Retailer” has a brick and mortar location in South Louisiana does not mean that they are local. Being local means Owned and Operated locally. Buying local means spending money with businesses headquartered in the Greater Baton Rouge Area.

Does Buying Local, Really Make a Difference?

YES! According to many studies conducted around the US, locally-owned business generate a substantial local economic impact. The most famous of the studies, The Andersonville Study, concluded that for every $100 in spending with a local business, $68 remains in the local economy. However if the same $100 is spent with a chain business, only $43 remains in the local economy.

Why the Big Difference?

Employment and money circulation. Yes, chain stores employ many local residents to run their location, but where do the accountant or the marketing director or the CEO live? Not here. Their salaries are spent in the city where the home office is located, not in South Louisiana. When you shop with a locally owned business, the employees and the owners all live locally. Their salaries, property taxes, charitable contributions stay here.
