OUR HISTORY

Established in 1936 as a partnership between L. Fielding Phillips and J. Winston Genius with a $500 loan from Laurie LeBeau Genius (Winston’s mother, Fielding’s mother-in-law), Louisiana Office Supply Company was founded to sell office products as Fielding had experience in the field. Our first location was on Convention Street in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge. In those days, most deliveries were made by bicycle including cases of folders and steno chairs. In the late 1960’s Louisiana Office Supply Company relocated to a 33,000 square foot building at 5550 Florida Boulevard.

In 1978, Louisiana Office Supply Company was incorporated as LOSCO.  The original owners were:  L. Fielding Phillips, J. Winston Genius, Garnet L. Genius, Chad Phillips, and Oliver McAllen.  For a time in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, LOSCO was woman owned with stock controlled by widows, but not woman run.

In 2008, LOSCO moved to its current 90,000 square foot location at 7643 Florida Boulevard.  This bold move encouraged some of the owners to sell their stock to the next generation.  In 2010, LOSCO became women run, but the stock ownership was retained by men.

LOSCO is a source for office supplies, office furniture and janitorial products for the Greater Baton Rouge area.  In 2014, LOSCO changed the order of their dbas to include a new emphasis on janitorial items.  LOSCO Inc, dba Louisiana Office Solutions Company, dba Louisiana Office Supply Company, dba, Louisiana Office Furniture Company, dba, Louisiana Janitorial and Facility Supply Company.  Since 1936, the bulk of LOSCO’s sales has been B to B, with a flurry of B to C sales in the summer with school supplies.

LOSCO has weathered a depression, multiple recessions, and worse of all, a pandemic.  Sales have been picked off by the advent of national box stores in the 1980’s and online behemoths in the 2010’s.  The pandemic changed the way consumers use office products and furniture and the shrink in sales continued.  As a result of continued losses, ownership of many shares changed hands on January 1, 2024. LOSCO is owned and operated by women.   An all women board was elected on March 19, 2024.  The board is very optimistic about LOSCO’s future.

As the business grew and Baton Rouge spread away from the Mississippi, Louisiana Office Supply relocated to Mid City. LOSCO moved into its current location at 7643 Florida Boulevard in 2008. The 90,000 square foot location houses a spacious showroom as well as warehouse and offices.
